Typography
Let the voice of the brand become visible.
What it means
Typography shapes how a brand sounds on the page and how comfortably people can read it. A type system sets the family, weights, hierarchy, spacing and behaviour across screens and print. It must handle the practical demands of headlines, long copy, small labels and different languages.
Why a CMO invests in it
For a CMO, typography provides continuity across a large number of everyday encounters. A clear hierarchy can make information easier to scan while a distinctive typographic voice helps assets feel related. The value lies in a usable system, not simply in commissioning an unusual font.

Read the original source ↗The documented case
Google Design documents the development of YouTube Sans as a way to extend the brand’s identity into typography across its products and communications.
The marketing lesson
Google Design’s account of YouTube Sans explains how a typeface extended YouTube’s identity beyond its red colour and logo. The font could connect headlines across products such as Music and TV, alongside the existing system typeface. This is an external design reference, not TheArsenale work. The useful lesson is to start with the tasks the typography must perform, then give those tasks a coherent personality.
Can this typographic system be distinctive in a campaign and still be clear in the smallest practical use?
What the work produces
Typeface selection; licences and language review; responsive type scale; line-height and spacing rules; templates for priority channels.
The exact scope is defined for each brief; this is a practical guide to the discipline.
What to measure
Test reading and scanning tasks, consistency across formats and recognition of the brand’s visual voice. Check loading and rendering in digital use, rather than judging only a large specimen sheet.
These are suggested evaluation criteria, not reported results for the case above.
