Visual identity and logos
Make a brand recognisable before it is explained.

What it means
Visual identity is the system through which a brand becomes recognisable: a logo, colour, typography, imagery and rules for using them together. The logo is a central component, but the system must also work when it is small, moving, partially visible or placed beside partners.
Why a CMO invests in it
For a CMO, a consistent identity can make separate investments build the same memory. It can also simplify production and approval by providing clear rules. The commercial ambition is easier recognition and a more coherent impression, not a guaranteed increase in sales after a redesign.
The documented case
TheArsenale developed a new visual identity for Renault’s Formula 1 presence, focusing on the logo and colour palette. The brief was to express the team’s return with a clear and recognisable design direction.
The project translated Renault’s racing identity into a coherent visual system. Its core elements gave the brand a consistent foundation for its presence in the world of Formula 1.
The marketing lesson
TheArsenale developed a visual identity for Renault’s Formula 1 presence, focusing on the logo and colour palette. The project translated the team’s return into a recognisable design direction. The teaching point is the relationship between a few distinctive elements and their repeated application. In motorsport, an identity must remain legible across crowded, fast-moving environments; consistency becomes a practical design requirement.
Which visual elements will people recognise as ours when the logo is not the largest thing on the page?
What the work produces
Logo family; colour system; typography hierarchy; partner lockups; usage rules; examples across priority touchpoints.
The exact scope is defined for each brief; this is a practical guide to the discipline.
What to measure
Test recognition, correct brand attribution and legibility in realistic contexts. Internally, review how often teams need to recreate assets or request exceptions to the guidelines.
These are suggested evaluation criteria, not reported results for the case above.
